The other day I watched a movie based on the true account of American student William (Billy) Hayes who was caught with hash taped to his chest at a Turkish airport and sentenced to hard time in a Turkish prison. The film was called "Midnight Express," a prison expression for an escape attempt.
This movie earned a 8 out of possible 10 on my Entertainment Rating Scale. It's basically "The Shawshank Redemption" goes to Turkey but without Morgan Freeman's awesome narration. The theme music played a big role in this film, really capturing the sadness, confusion, and culture shock of poor William Hayes played by this guy Brad Davis who closely resembles Brad Pitt from "Spy Game."

After watching Midnight Express you will
Probably go listen to:
The 1978 Academy Award Winning Score by Italian Synth Master Giorgio Moroder
Notice that Randy Quaid was always good at playing a crazy nutcase.
Realize what Jim Carrey is alluding to when he puts his chest on the glass and says "Oh Billy" in the prison seen from "The Cable Guy."
Feel that your problems are not as bad as they may seem.
Understand why Snitches should keep their mouth shut.
Realize Turkey isn't just a good source of protein but also a possible good source of Hash. Just don't try to bring it back with you.
I must also note that the real life William Hayes was not pleased with the way Turkish People were portrayed in this film.
The movie deviates from the book in a few instances but the message is still clear.
Prison Sucks.
Prison Sucks.
I normally don't watch older films but with the dismal turnout of good movies in 2011 I find it necessary to dig through my Roommates Mom's Netflix account, used DVD stores, and AMC to find quality entertainment without spending an arm and a leg.
"Midnight Express" should be on your list of Movies to watch.
